Jac Lara CPDT-KA
Jac has been a professional dog trainer for the past 4 years with a background as a professional nanny. Jac often found herself helping to close the communication gap between families and their pets in busy households. Jac’s last dog was a very reactive and she understands the time, energy and commitment it takes to maintain a harmonious life. Jac lives in Portland with her cattle dog mix and 2 cats, offering Private training, Reactivity Reduction walks and Pet Care. She volunteers monthly at a local animal welfare clinic.
Jess Lara CBCC-KA
Jess has been a professional dog trainer for 12 years with a special interest in working breeds in pet homes. Jess lives on acreage in Scappoose with her Malinois, German Shepherd, Border Collie and spouse, Aaron. She is involved in RH/Search & Rescue sport, loves hiking, camping and biking with her dogs. She offers local services such as Day Camp, Boarding, Remedial Socialization Program, Monthly Training Program, Group Classes and Hiking Off Leash Program. Jess volunteers at Columbia County Animal Control.

This course is designed for dogs who bark and lunge at other dogs or people on walks, from inside your car, in your home or in your yard.

Reactive dogs are not broken! They do not need to be “fixed,” they need support and skills. This course will give you tools and systems to to reduce your dog’s reactivity. This is considered a Level One class. A Level Two class will be available in 2027.

This course uses modern methods rooted in a welfare first approach using management, counter conditioning, operant conditioning, enrichment, decompression, desensitization, nervous system regulation, and relationship building. This course is open to everyone regardless of previous training methods. This course will not coach you on the use of aversive tools.

This is a 6 week course with 8 hour long live calls on T 10/20 6:30pm, T 10/27 6:30pm, F 10/30 11am, T 11/3 6:30pm, F 11/6 11am, T 11/10 6:30pm, T 11/17 6:30pm, & F 11/20 11am. Daily homework will require 20-60 minutes of dedicated time.

Our goal for this course was to make dog training more accessible by keeping the cost low. The value of this course is $2400 with 8 hours of live video calls from 2 professional trainers, daily feedback, lessons and video instruction .
